Ladies Ride

I had so much fun on the ladies ride. We cycled from town to chorlton a real nice route through loads of MCR parks inc Alexandra Park and Whitworth Park...then down to Cohrlton Ees and around the water park. The sun was shining as we rode talking about bikes and sharing experiences. Then we popped into Jacksons Boat for a nice pint and some chips, and lucky we did as it started to rain and hail! It was really good to spend time with some women that like to ride and to simply go for a leisurely ride with no particular purpose other than to love riding our bikes. ace.

Bicycle Polo Practise

Quite a few people turned up to play but I'm probably the wrong one to report on it as I'd cycled all night to Formby then gone for a beer and breakfast hoping some sort of revival which didn't happen. Stil I played for a bit, badly, luckily the rest of the Dropouts took the lead. And now it looks like we have a few more MCR teams for the Polot Tournament in a couple of weeks...ace.

Midnight Ride to Formby

We met up at The Sandbar on Grosvenor Street, a gang of flouresents, messenger bags, flashing lights and every kind of bike imaginable from bromptons to mountain bikes to fixies to road bikes. What an amazing mixture of cyclists from every corner of the MCR cycling world! We set off after a wee dram and headed out of the city and hot our first puncture just as we reached Salford University! In the chilly air we stood and gossiped and helped until the punture was fixed and we could continue. We rode for miles every now and agian stopping to fix puntures or for a pee stop!

When we turned off the mostly deserted East Lancs onto the dark quiet roads there was a mixture of lively chatting and stealthy quiet. For me, winding through these lanes in pitch black with only my front light and the red lights of my new and old friends to guide me and the bright stars helping to distinguish the Earth from the sky, this was the best part of the ride. When we arrived at Formby the cold had set in to my fingers and feet and as I carried my fixie over the sand and glimpsed the sea it all felt worth it. We stood around for a while despite the freezing wind to chat and to amaze at teh odd rocket launcher looking cooking contraption that was heating soup..then we got the train home...what an amazing night.

"wow that was an intense ride.. so glad we did it tho!" Clark

Saturday 29th March
Treasure Hunt

Despite the torrential rain the treasure hunt was heaps of fun. Riders took their task sheets that listed a number of things to do to earn points which were more or less points according to how long it would take, how far it was and how difficult it might be. These included having a cup of tea at the Hilton cafe (well done Alexis for blagging a free cuppa there), taking a picture of Ordsall Halls ghost (well done to Julia for being creative with that one!)...

The winners were everyone that took part but the people got points in this order
1st: Julia
2nd: Annie
3rd: Mo
4th: Adam
5th: Alexis
6th: Robin

Winners got prizes from Bicycle Doctor, GBH, Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op and Twin 6 (see sponsors page for more info)
